“It Ain’t the Lawyers”

Here is a good essay found in the Huffington Post and written by a doctor-not a lawyer. It has almost become an urban legend, the idea that rising health care costs are due to frivolous lawsuits brought by money-grubbing attorneys. However, like most legends, this one is simply not true. From the essay:

“For a long time we’ve been in the middle of a great national debate on controlling our crippling health care costs. The next time a hospital, an insurance company or a politician says we can’t control these costs because malpractice is so expensive, why don’t you ask them if maybe they’d like to show you the real numbers and start looking at the real problem. Because now you know: it ain’t the lawyers.”

In over 25 years of practice on the defense side of malpractice cases, Jeff Mitchell is the attorney I fear most. He takes very good cases. Jeff has the medicine and the applicable literature down cold. He is without a doubt the best cross-examiner I have ever seen. I have paid his clients a lot of money over the years.
